About Laura Watkins

My Story

Laura Watkins is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. She served in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer Yeoman (Surface Warfare) after twenty years of honorable service. She graduated from Strayer University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. She is the proud mother of her son, a self-published author, and a faithful messenger of God.

Let me tell you a little about myself and my story of why I got involved in blogging. I retired from the Navy in 2008 after serving 20 honorable years of service. As I slowly transitioned back into civilian life, I returned to Tennessee and enrolled at a Higher Learning college to fulfill my lifelong dream of having a bachelor’s degree in business administration. In the beginning, this was a straightforward decision because the military afforded me an opportunity to attend classes and get paid, but only if I maintained a decent grade point average. This worked out perfectly. However, it was only temporary. So, I realized it was time to research what my next journey would intel. I started searching for ways to work part-time after concluding my retirement pay, and GI Bill money was not enough to cover the debts that were slowly piling up, especially from my student loan fees.

Many of you are probably wondering, why not have a full-time job? Well, if you’ve served in a forward-deployed military, you understand what it’s like to be away from family and friends (in my case my son), six months at a time. This painful ordeal was life-changing for the entire family. After fulfilling my military obligation, I vowed to have a lifestyle that was flexible enough where I could work at my leisure, spend valuable time with my son and make a financial change for both of us to travel… and provide him with a better education. Today, my son is all grown up. He has traveled the world, and for me, well, my new adventure is just beginning to develop. Here is what’s new:

In August 2022, I self-published and authored “What’s in My Book: Ascending from Everlasting Destruction to Eternal Life.” My first non-fiction memoir describing why I needed to turn my mirror around and see my reflection in order to save my life.

I’m currently promoting my book and rediscovering my love for blogging to encourage and inspire readers of all ages who are also hungry for God, seeking Jesus Christ, and surrendering to the Holy Ghost to sail at “full speed ahead.”

Faith and Vocation

In 2021, I matriculated at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, Georgia to continue asking, seeking, and knocking for wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and instructions to grow in spiritual critical thinking and to elevate in storytelling and ethical faith. Watch Below!
